Containment system finalized at Turner Valley historic site
Edmonton...Construction of a $5 million containment and groundwater treatment system at the Turner Valley gas plant is now complete. The containment and treatment system will capture hydrocarbons and other contaminants from the historic Turner Valley Gas Plant preventing them from flowing off-site and entering the Sheep River."

Containment System History:
June, 2005
The process has started to build a permanent $3 million containment system. The containment system is the last remaining step to prevent hydrocarbons from moving off site. In addition, staff of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation will be developing and implementing a plan to clean up the site following recent flooding of the Sheep River.
To date, there has been no evidence of any contamination entering the river FROM the site, only TO the site.
As regulator, Alberta Environment approves the environmental plans for clean up of the site to ensure that all environmental standards are met.
This announcement brings the Alberta Governments total funding for reclamation of the Turner Valley site to $5.4 million.
